查看所有台灣在地質結構上,位於歐亞板塊與菲律賓海板塊交界帶,豐富了台灣的地表景觀,形成諸多高聳山脈,同時也存在著平原、丘陵、台地與盆地等地形,因地殼不穩定地震十分頻繁,不同地形所產生的地震災害亦有所不同。如臺北盆地,因地質較軟,受到地震能量來襲時,鬆軟的地質會產生明顯的搖晃,加上周圍環山,所受破壞力相對較大,搖晃感受時間更久。
「盆地效應」是什麼?
一般而言,地震震度以靠近震央的地方震度越大,然而若是盆地地形,盆地四周為堅硬的地盤,盆地內為鬆軟的沉積層,當地震波傳到盆地時更容易聚焦,在盆地地表所受地震震動的時間將會拉長,地震強度也會明顯放大,在台北盆地內的民眾於地震發生時更加「有感」,此即為「盆地效應」。
如同1986年11月15日,花蓮外海發生芮氏規模6.8的地震,鄰近震央的花蓮地區未發生太大災情,但距離較遠的台北地區,卻發生許多大樓倒塌的災型,其原因就是因為盆地效應所造成。另外在墨西哥亦發生同樣情況,1985年9月墨西哥太平洋外海發生7.8的地震,距離震央約400公里的墨西哥市,因位於盆地上,市中心部分建築物在地震中受損及倒塌,為「盆地效應」典型案例。
